Vasilis Syrgkanis receives Google Research Scholar award

Congratulations to MS&E professor Vasilis Syrgkanis! 

Professor Syrgkanis received a Google Research Scholar award for his research that explores causal inference and machine learning. An abstract for his proposal, named Automating the Causal Machine Learning Pipeline, appears below: 

Despite recent progress at the intersection of causal inference and machine learning, deploying successful causal machine learning solutions requires technical expertise and is not accessible to every decision maker. This is unlike the user-friendliness of modern automated predictive tools. We outline fundamental research challenges that hinder the automation of the causal machine learning pipeline, propose research directions that will be important steps towards automation of the causal inference process.
