Pamela Hinds named Chair of MS&E

MS&E welcomes Pamela Hinds as incoming Fortinet Founders Chair of the department!

Professor Hinds will succeed Prof. Nick Bambos, who has chaired MS&E since 2016, on September 1. Prof. Hinds brings many accomplishments in both academia and industry to her role, and positions MS&E toward continued excellence.

Below is an excerpt from a letter written by Jennifer Widom, Dean of the School of Engineering (SoE), in which she welcomes Prof. Hinds and thanks Prof. Bambos:

Dear colleagues,

Please join me in thanking Nick Bambos, who will be stepping down at the end of this month from his role as chair of the Management Science & Engineering department. Since beginning his term as chair in January 2016, Nick has worked tirelessly on behalf of the MS&E department. Under his leadership, the department hired an incredible cohort of talented new faculty members, creating a strong pipeline of research and education talent that will benefit the department for years and decades to come.

I am very pleased to announce that Pamela Hinds will become the new Fortinet Founders Chair of MS&E, effective Sept. 1. In addition to her 20+ years as a faculty member, Pamela co-directs the Center on Work, Technology & Organization in MS&E, and is faculty director of SoE Global Programs. Her work on the effect of technology on teams and collaboration has received many awards and accolades, including the Distinguished Scholar Award from the Organizational Communication & Information System Division of the Academy of Management. Pamela received her PhD from Carnegie Mellon University in 1997 and joined Stanford a year later as an assistant professor. In addition to her research, Pamela has volunteered her efforts for a number of committees and task forces, most recently co-leading the Long Range Planning (LRP) Discovery Team on Global Engagement. She is also a member of the d.school Director's Council, the executive board of the Program in Science, Technology & Society, and the Haas Center for Public Service faculty steering committee.
