Congratulations to Prof. Markus Pelger for receiving the 2023 Bates-White Prize!

The prize is awarded by the Society for Financial Econometrics (SoFiE) to the authors with the best paper at the annual SoFiE conference. Prof. Pelger received the prize along with his co-authors, Svetlana Bryzgalova, Assistant Professor of Finance at London Business School (LBS); Victor DeMiguel, Professor of Management Science and Operations at LBS; and Sicong Li, PhD student at LBS.

Their winning paper, "Asset-Pricing Factors with Economic Targets," proposes a method to estimate latent asset-pricing factors that incorporates economically motivated targets for both cross-sectional and time-series properties of the factors.

According to SoFiE, the society is a global network of academics and practitioners dedicated to sharing research and ideas in the fast-growing field of financial econometrics. It is an independent non-profit membership organization, currently housed at New York University. SoFiE promotes and expands research and education by organizing and sponsoring conferences, programs, and activities at the intersection of finance and econometrics, including links to macroeconomic fundamentals. The annual SoFiE conference is the largest conference in financial econometrics with a competitive selection process.
