RESEARCH THEMES MY WORK REPRESENTS
Informing Policy Decisions

Academic and work experience

My research experience as an undergraduate student exposed me to how the broad field of modeling and policy can contribute to addressing multiple societal challenges. I worked with professors in a variety of fields, as well as with some of the major Chinese university research and teaching hospitals. This helped me to refine a focus for my future PhD studies, specifically on health systems modeling and policy. To dive deeper, I yearn to join MS&E as a PhD student because of its rich interdisciplinary research opportunities and diversified working environment. I am also attracted by Systems Utilization Research for Stanford Medicine, which provides a platform to connect my research to collaborations with medical and high-tech sectors and bring advances to worldwide hospitals.

Impact I hope to have in my field and the world

My undergraduate research experience guided me to understand how the increasing frequency of climate-related natural disasters and the increasing frequency of emerging infectious diseases, such as COVID-19, are connected. Health systems require a balance between resilience for future shocks and efficiency to handle their current challenges. This balance can be well achieved by modeling and implemented in practice through refined policy design. That will be my goal for my PhD program.
