Work and academic experiences
My undergraduate studies were in mathematics and computer science. I worked as a software developer at Epic in Madison, WI and was a research intern at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. When I first encountered rigorous probability theory in college, I was fascinated and knew that I would continue on with it somehow. An MS&E PhD provides a great opportunity to develop as a scholar with both mathematical and business proclivities.
Impact you hope to have in your field and the world
In my field, I would like to obtain an original, insightful, and beautiful result that increases our appreciation of some facet of probability. In the world, I would like to join or create endeavors that intelligently take on risk with the opportunity for large rewards, to avoid rent-seeking, and to put my money where my mouth is. Of course, I would like to succeed, but would rather fail in the attempt at something great than to succeed at easy goals.
Interests and hobbies
Music (guitar), books (everything), walking (cities and mountains), and the internet (www.montefischer.com, Twitter @themontefischer).
