Academic and work experience

I have, for the last five years, been serving as an Air Force pilot. This followed a Master in Public Policy degree, and associated research on AI policies implemented by the American Department of Defense and Chinese People’s Liberation Army. My recent work with the Defense Department Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Responsible AI team and the Air Force - Stanford AI Accelerator has inspired me to pursue research on organizational design conducive to effective and responsible artificial intelligence and machine learning capability development and fielding, especially in a military context.

Impact I hope to have in my field and the world

I hope to use this program to launch a career exploring the science of organizational design as it relates to organizations, primarily military organizations, attempting to develop and deploy cutting edge software tools. I hope that career will involve roles within academia, and as an advisor to governments on their approach to military AI. I would hope to pursue, most likely in the latter stages of my career, returning to government service directly, and implementing research-validated practices for effective and responsible software development in the US government, the governments of partner nations, or multinational organizations.

Interests and hobbies

I love just about anything outside, especially skiing and hiking. I also love ice hockey, a good book, and spending time with my wife and daughter!
