Academic and work experience

In games of partial information, there's always this question: "What does the other person know?" At Carnegie Mellon University, I worked at answering this question by using reinforcement learning to model the beliefs of other AI actors. This investigation laid the groundwork for a deep interest in studying how AI algorithms interact with each other, both in society in general, and in the financial system in particular, where hedge funds and other actors increasingly use AI assistance.

Impact I hope to have in my field and the world

We currently live in a world of rapid innovation, both in terms of the efficiency of AI algorithms and their applications to real-world problems. They work! And sometimes they just don't, and we don't know why.

The use of these algorithms within stock markets should cause some trepidation. As of now, I hope to develop models that inform the deployment and regulation of such algorithms within financial institutions.

Interests and hobbies

Singing—generally musicals (Broadway!), but I've been working on expanding my repertoire. Also, board games are great.
