How do you start a stream of research as a new PhD student? Just start doing it, and practice getting feedback early on.
That's the advice PhD candidate Alton Russell gives to incoming students in this MS&E Spotlights interview. Alton studies the modeling of healthcare decisions and policy, and specifically how to keep blood donors and transfusion recipients safe in the face of dangers like the Zika virus.
