The 2026 Rising Stars workshop was hosted at the University of Michigan Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering (U-M IOE) on Friday, March 27, welcoming nearly 30 early-career researchers and doctoral students from around the world to Ann Arbor.

Co-organized by Stanford MS&E, U-M IOE, and the Georgia Tech H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE), the one-day workshop brought together emerging scholars to explore academic pathways, build relationships with faculty and peers, and engage in conversations about research and career development.

The workshop aims to broaden participation in research and strengthen connections among promising junior researchers in industrial engineering, operations research, and management science. Participants took part in research talks, mentoring sessions, and a poster session, along with faculty-led programming throughout the day.

Highlights included a presentation from U-M IOE Department Chair Julie Simmons Ivy and a professional development session led by U-M IOE Assistant Professor Albert S. Berahas.

Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in multiple opportunities to connect directly with faculty and mentors, reinforcing the event's commitment to supporting the next generation of leaders in industrial and operations engineering and related fields.

"Hosting the Rising Stars Workshop increased U-M IOE's visibility among junior researchers from a broad range of fields, including industrial engineering, operations research, and management science," said U-M IOE Associate Professor and Rising Stars co-organizer Ruiwei Jiang. "IOE faculty and graduate students also benefited from interacting with the participating researchers and their excellent work."
