MS&E was officially formed in 2000; however, our storied past begins much earlier.

As a celebration of that history, we recently published a new Our Story site. It traces MS&E's journey, from the beginning of optimization thinking at Stanford in the late 1800s, to the emergence of Industrial Engineering, Engineering-Economic Systems, and Operations Research in the mid-1900s, all the way to our 25th anniversary celebration in 2025.
