MS&E's contributions to first 50 years of Mathematics of Operations Research
Mathematics of Operations Research, a flagship journal for MS&E, recently published a list of 50 iconic papers to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
MS&E is well represented in the list of papers, which includes one from each year starting in 1976. Eight of the papers were authored or co-authored by our faculty and many were co-authored by MS&E alums. Below are the papers by our faculty, in bold, and alumni, who appear with their graduation year:
1985: Distributional Strategies for Games with Incomplete Information
Paul R. Milgrom*, Robert J. Weber
1990: Newton's Method for B-Differentiable Equations
John-Shi Pang (PhD '77)
1993: On Adaptive-Step Primal-Dual Interior-Point Algorithms for Linear Programming
Shinji Mizuno, Michael J. Todd, Yinyu Ye
2011: The Simplex and Policy-Iteration Methods Are Strongly Polynomial for the Markov Decision Problem with a Fixed Discount Rate
Yinyu Ye
2012: Online Stochastic Matching: Online Actions Based on Offline Statistics
Vahideh H. Manshadi (PhD '11, Electrical Engineering—advised by MS&E Professor Amin Saberi), Shayan Oveis Gharan (PhD '13), Amin Saberi
2014: Learning to Optimize via Posterior Sampling
Daniel Russo (PhD '15), Ben Van Roy
2019: Quantifying Distributional Model Risk via Optimal Transport
Jose Blanchet, Karthyek Murthy (former Visiting Scholar in MS&E)
2021: Statistics of Robust Optimization: A Generalized Empirical Likelihood Approach
